Working with ArcGIS

What has surprised you as you have been working with the ArcGIS software?

  1. What the ArcGPS software has surprised me with is the amount of information it has and how it can be combined with other information to form an original and personalized map with more layers than you could count and showing anything from capitals in states to faults along tectonic plates, with labels for certain faults and plates.

  2. I have been surprised by all the different kinds of information you can show on a map with ArcGIS. There are so many different things that you can show on a map like volcanoes and population change. You also can personalize that information to only display the biggest volcanoes. There is so many different things you can do with ArcGIS that it is almost impossible to create two identical maps.

  3. I have been very surprised by ArcGIS. It has almost everything you could think of to put on a map. It has earthquakes, how many people are in each country, city size, and average family household size. I also found it kind of surprising how easy it really is to make a map. I thought making a map like we have made would take quite a long time but really it takes only about 20 minutes or so. You can also combine information from websites to ArcGIS and then plot points and the points will show up!!!

  4. I also have been very surprised by everything you can do with the ArcGIS program! I love all the different things you can put on a map like things I wouldn't necessarily always think of like average family household size and all the different sizes and different maps you can make. I like how you can also just click the label option and it will label anything you choose it to label, like states, river, lakes, and roads. It's a great program with many ideas and sources. I enjoy using it. :)

  5. Something that has surprised me about the ArcGIS system is that it hardly ever works the way you want it to. Most of the time you have to troubleshoot and try to figure out what is wrong with the system. Also I was surprised about with the ArcGIS was that it was so complicated. I thought it was going to be a little easier than it is. You have to do so many steps to make the points show up where you want them to. To improve their system they could make it more user friendly
